Pre-Inspection
In addition to any concerns you may have, like stains or odors, we inspect each rug for pre-existing conditions that may affect the way we approach the cleaning of your rugs.
- Dry rot
- Pet urine damage
- Visible dye bleed
- Tufted construction
- Moth damage
- Holes, unraveling areas
- Mildew, mold
- Stenciling, ink touch-up
- Permanent stains
- Buckling, shrinkage
We will discuss any red-flag issues with you prior to cleaning your rugs and you will receive a digital copy of your inspection for your own records.
Dry Soil Removal (Dusting)
Rockford Rug Cleaning spends a lot of time working on removing the dry particulate soils that get ground in and embedded at the base of the fibers of your rugs. This is the stuff that weekly vacuuming can’t reach. We’re equipped with various hi-tech and lo-tech methods so that no matter the special needs of your area rug, we can select a dry soil removal process, or combination of these, that is best.
Pre-Treating Spots & Stains
Some types of stains need special attention prior to washing. These are the kinds of stains that we know through experience will either become worse or will set permanently if not pre-treated. Be sure to alert us to all spills or stains that you are aware of!
- Pet urine, vomit
- Coffee, tea
- Red wine
- Colorful sports drinks
- Tar, grease, asphalt
- Wax, crayon
- Ink, marker
- Paint, slime, gum
Pet Urine Decontamination
Beyond the scope of cleaning and deodorizing, pet urine removal is a targeted multi-step process that takes time and multiple treatments using solutions designed to break down the alkaline urine salts and neutralize odor-causing bacteria. The more urine salts deposited in any one area, the harder they are to remove. Following our pet urine decontamination protocols is the only way to guarantee pet urine odor removal.
While our decontamination process is safe for all fiber types and rug construction types, if pet urine has been building up in the rug over time, you should expect to see some permanent dye damage or discoloration due to a pH shift caused by the alkaline found in the urine salts on the acid-set dyes. As long as there is no dry rot to the foundation, we may be able to color correct repair this to a certain degree for you.
Washing / Cleaning
Rockford Rug Cleaners is outfitted with some of the most amazing equipment and tools the rug washing industry has to offer. Cleaning rugs here in our studio instead of in your home means that we have the ability to take our time to focus on specific cleaning issues, and we have full access to our specialty equipment and solutions, as well as the ability to dry them quickly.
Rug cleaning in your home means using equipment, heat, and chemicals meant for wall-to-wall carpet which is incredibly damaging for the fibers and yarns found in Oriental rugs and other area rugs.
- Full immersion washing
- Specialized equipment
- Custom formulated cleaning products
- Skilled technicians
- Advanced education and training
- Focused, flexible approach
Centrifugal / High Flow Rinsing
Our centrifuge is something to see in action! It allows us to run a lot of water through an area rug to rinse it clear of suds while using centripetal force to evacuate as much water as possible before that rug heads to our drying area. This helps reduce the overall volume of water we use and reduces the time it takes for this labor-intensive step in the process.
If your area rug is too fragile for this equipment, we’re still able to use our tried-and-true old-fashioned technology to safely rinse and remove water without causing any damage to your rugs.
Humidity-Controlled Drying
We have given our drying space some serious attention and are able to carefully control the relative humidity and temperature so that even heavy, thick rugs can dry quickly, but the process is still safe for more delicate fibers like silk and rayon.
You don’t have to worry about the problems associated with damp, slow drying here!
- Musty odors
- Mildew
- Dye bleed
- Discolored fringes
- Shrinkage
- Wicking
Deodorization
Adding deodorizer to your rug care plan can make a big difference in helping to mask everyday odors that get trapped in the fibers of your area rugs. For pet urine odors, we recommend additional pet urine treatment for guaranteed odor removal.
- Wet dog odors
- Musty odors
- Nicotine odors
- Cooking odors
- Stale odors
- Sour odors
